In May 2007, representatives of Austrian Airlines and Salzburg Airport came together to found an environmental initiative association, the ULI or Umwelt- und Luftfahrtinitiative. Both Vienna Airport and Austro Control have since joined the ULI, and the number of aviation companies taking part is rising. The ULI will continue to work to examine aviation-related environmental issues and above all the environmental communications of the Austrian aviation industry.

So far, the ULI initiative has published folders on the topics of fuel usage and Carbon Offsetting. In the summer of 2008 the environmental brochure Enviroment and Aviation, which is a very detailed description of the topic, has been reprinted.
